Less than a week ago, Skin Ceuticals launched their Age Defying and Antioxidant Laser System for home use. The system features a fractional laser and two of Skin Ceutical’s best anti-aging products, CE Feurulic and Resveratrol BE. We were all pretty excited about using this device and being able to offer it to our clients. I tried it at our open House this past Thursday. I was a little concerned I might end up red afterwards or look funny for the rest of the event! No such thing happened though, and I think actually looked brighter and better after the treatment and reapplying my make-up.
Here’s the scoop on the age-defying laser system.
How does the Age-Defying Laser work?
The Age-Defying Laser uses a technology called a fractional laser that treats a small fraction of your skin at a time. During a treatment, the laser passes thousands of microscopic beams into your skin creating zones of cellular disruption.
The skin responds by stimulating the skin’s natural renewal process to rebuild collagen.
The result is smoother skin, reduced wrinkles, and a more youthful and radiant appearance.
It is not designed to take the place of in-office laser treatments, but rather it is an excellent complement to enhance your treatments.
How can there be a laser treatment that you can take home with you?!? Is this safe? Yes. The non-ablative fractional laser technology used in the Age-Defying Laser has been used safely in dermatologists’ offices for over 10 years.
This particular device was part of extensive clinical studies and was proven safe and effective. It has also been FDA-cleared for home use. It much less powerful than the in-office treatments.
When will you start seeing results?
Results vary by person, but generally you should first start to notice smoother skin within 2-3 weeks. Wrinkles typically will begin to be less visible after 4-6 weeks but best results occur 2-4 weeks after the full 12-week course of treatment.
In a clinical trial, 76% of subjects reported a reduction in the fine lines and wrinkles as soon as 4 weeks into treatment. This laser is designed to treat multiple signs of aging and is clinically proven to promote smoother, more radiant skin, but it does not prevent the aging process.
How does the Age-Defying Laser compare to in-office laser treatments?
The Age-Defying Laser uses the same non-ablative fractional laser technology that is used by dermatologists. However, professional fractional treatments typically cover about 30% of your face per treatment vs. our device which treats about 1% per daily treatment. This is why you need to treat 5 days/week.
As mentioned above, it is not designed to take the place of in-office laser treatments, but rather it is an excellent complement to enhance your treatments.
Who can use the Age-Defying Laser?
The Age-Defying Laser is intended for men and women with any skin tone. However, the device should not be used on skin that contains permanent makeup or is tattooed, infected, burned or cut.
How long will the results last?
Results can last up to a year. Clinical studies measured 12 weeks after the last treatment and showed significant results in a number of subjects at that point. Best results were shown to occur 2-4 weeks after the full course of treatment.
While the Age-Defying Laser is not specifically indicated to treat uneven pigmentation or discoloration, other non-ablative fractional devices have demonstrated safety and effectiveness for treatment of uneven pigmentation or discoloration.
In clinical studies, 85% of Age-Defying Laser uses reported reduced discoloration and 89% reported more even skin tone.
Start with the device on the lowest setting, 1, and use that setting until you are use to the sensation, which feels slightly hot. Once you are adjusted to the sensation, you should use treatment level 2 or 3 for the device to be effective.
How often should you use the Age-Defying Laser?
Treat with the Age-Defying Laser 5 days a week for 12 weeks to achieve desired results.
After 12 weeks, take at least a one-month break to allow the collagen renewal process to continue.
So, how should you use the SkinCeuticals products in conjunction eith the Age Defying Laser? Immediately following the laser, apply C E Ferulic to promote healing & topical uptake. Follow with Resveratrol BE to decrease post-laser tightness and promote the skin’s natural repair process.
