Kybella, is a patented, FDA-approved, synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in our bodies, and helps metabolize fat. Kybella is manufactured by Allergan, the makers of Botox. It is the first and only non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA for contouring and improving the appearance of submental fullness, more commonly known as double chin. Kybella dissolves excess fat under the chin, leaving a smooth jawline without the downtime of treatments like traditional liposuction or neck surgery.

 

Double chin affects men and women, and often persists despite weight loss in other areas of the body. A double chin can result in an unwanted heavier, or more aged, appearance. Kybella can restore better facial symmetry and a more defined facial jawline.

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Before injecting Kybella, a grid is placed over the area and specific markings are made to show exactly where your injections will go. Topical numbing cream will also be applied. The treatment is a series of injections, with an entire treatment session lasting about 20 minutes. Once injected, Kybella disrupts the fat cell membrane, causing lysis, which means it destroys the cell membrane. After that, the fat cell releases its fatty contents and the body naturally metabolizes that fat. 

 

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED

Generally, two to four sessions, about one month apart, are needed to achieve optimal results. The first session will require about 2-4 syringes, with the remaining sessions requiring less syringes, as some of the fat will already be diminishing.

 

ARE RESULTS PERMANENT

Yes. Research has shown that even if weight is gained in other areas of the body, that fat may not be re-gained in the areas where Kybella has been injected.
