Redefyning Beauty? Welcome the Newest Fillers for Expression Correction: Restylane Refyne and Defyne

February 9, 2017

If you’ve ever had a filler appointment with us you know we always ask for pre-filler stipulations: no Advil, no fish oil, no melatonin, no Vitamin E for a week before, and no alcohol for at least 24-hours before your injections. This is because these items can make you swell and bruise more. And if you know us Body Tonic gals, you also know we don’t generally follow those directions ourselves - mainly because we so unabashedly accept the consequences of the swelling and or bruising. And last week was no exception.

We tried out the two new fillers from Galderma: Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne. Refyne is approved to treat moderate wrinkles and folds from the nose to mouth. Defyne is approved to plump and fill deep-set lines in the mid-face.

They are hyaluronic acid fillers designed with a new technology, called XpresHAn, that allows the filler to flex within the skin as you move your face, so results looks soft and natural. And indeed, they are marketing their product, not with before and afters of still faces, but instead they are showing before and afters of people making expressions like frowning, smiling and blowing a kiss.

I have found most of the Galderma products to render fairly natural results already, but we are always up for trying something new. Maricela had some lines around her mouth treated with Refyne and I had a lip enhancement with Defyne. Maricela is thrilled with her results from having her smile lines and oral commisures treated. And I LOVE my lips. The immediately after results looked soft and natural. And for some reason I had very little swelling, despite the fact I had been taking Advil and drank wine the night before and the night of the injections. (And I’m a known sweller). So I’m calling this a miracle filler.

It’s too early post-injections to show our before and afters, but I have included some provided by Galderma.

Results are expected to last one year, and although these are new to the US market, they’ve been in use in Europe for years. As the injectors continue to work with them, we will find what niche they fill best!
